Description: Navigating through grief and loss can manifest countless negative emotions; sadness, anger, depression, and emptiness to name a few. However, despite the depths of your sadness, it is possible to transform these feelings into something absolutely beautiful. And this painting aims to depict exactly that - how our innate ability to develop resiliency can manifest into something truly magical.

I began this painting while sitting in my little sisters bedroom, while listening to her learn to play the piano. After experiencing a tragic loss, she began to teach herself music, something she has always been drawn towards. The solid bright red circle aims to depict anger, aggression, and rage experienced through grief. The small royal blue circle emulates her brother - royal blue is how we remember him through colour. The abstract black rectangles aims to depict piano keys. The layered black and white circles emulate the confused and scattered mind. The solid black and white circles aim to depict balance (similar to the ideology of Yin Yang), which aims to convey the development of balance and grounding through music. Observing her learn to play her favourite songs and witnessing her natural passion for music flourish has been such an incredible experience. Watching her play the piano outlines how resilient we can be, regardless of the infinite depths of sadness that linger; and how this resiliency can allow for manifestation of profound personal growth.

Re·sil·ience (noun) - The ability to mentally and emotionally cope with crisis, misfortune, and change.
