Description: The creation process around “Light In The Darkness” entailed a fine balance between letting go through pure emotional catharsis and calculated colour composition.
We often live our lives in complete oblivion, never thinking the unimaginable could ever happen to us and our loved ones. But when it does, it can feel as though you cannot find a reason to continue on. You question every aspect of your being, you become fixated on the true fragility and vulnerability that is life. And sometimes it can feel as though the darkness that manifests through losing a loved one will consume you. But there is always light in the darkness, no matter how dark it may get.
You will learn to continue to live your life through appreciating the small things that make you happy; realizing that this life is too short and the loss of a loved one is profoundly unjustifiable other than through using the experience as your purpose to living your very best life.
I began this piece by throwing black acrylic ink onto a blank canvas and using my hands to spread the colour in any which way that felt right in that moment. I then used black acrylic marker and allowed myself to completely let go on the canvas; closing my eyes and simply allowing my hand and body to flow without fear, judgment, or control.
The raw emotional release of mediums, vibrant colours, and portions of washed out light grey aim to depict a sense of hope, amidst the darkness.
The ‘HOPE’ lettering is inspired by the ‘HALO’ video game series. I think you would have fucked with that lil’ bro.
