Description: When I paint, I strive to find a perfectly abstract balance in the final composition through the harmony of anxious precision and a release of euphoria. When I paint crisp hard edge geometric compositions, I tend to be in my head with all my thoughts, feelings, and emotion; trying to analyze and reflect - often ruminating on my anxieties. As my stream of thoughts pass along, I subconsciously transfer working through my thoughts into painting onto the canvas.
In contrast, when I paint free flow lines and shapes, I tend to be in a state of flow, experiencing complete immersion within the present moment in my element - euphoria on the canvas. The feeling of being entirely outside of my head, trusting myself completely and simply letting the moment guide my instincts is incredible.
An example of combining these two different creative processes together is seen in this painting through the two precise black circle outlines, with free flow chaotic release inside.
This is why I paint. These two paradoxical creative processes are reflective of my inner being, and fuels my need to create. This painting perfectly depicts this paradoxical creation process.
I have been asked if I sketch prior to painting, and I simply just can’t pre-determine my artworks, or even the general layout. The process of picking different tools, methods, techniques, mediums, and colour schemes is something that happens naturally as I continue to work on the piece. In essence, as I worked on this piece I built layers of compositions through an unplanned creative process where each new additional layer is dependent on the outcomes of the one prior to it; similar to the butterfly effect.
The Butterfly Effect - A small change can make much bigger changes happen; one small incident can have a big impact on the future.
